Mashi Theatre shares stories for the child in all of us. ‘Mashi’ being the keeper of stories, teller of tales, and playmaker. In the Asian culture a ‘Mashi’ is comparable to the western ‘aunt’, not necessarily a blood relative but someone who assumes the role. Our vision is to reawaken stories seeped in culture.
Tales of Birbal (a Co-production with The Spark Arts) tells of the Mogul Emperor Akbar and his wise advisor Birbal, these stories reveal the characters own story, of how two women excluded from society become family (Mashi and niece). This show evolved to address the lack of diverse work for young people and will a tour in 2017 to mark 70th anniversary of Indian Independence. Trailer for Tales of Birbal
